With over 20 years commercial experience in the IT industry and having worked for US multinational companies in Colombia, South America, I came to Australia 11 months ago and very soon started attending job interviews. I have come close but not close enough I would say, to getting the position I was looking for. That is, a job where I could apply my extensive technical and sales skills.
When asked for feedback, none of my interviewers could accurately explain why I was not successful. Thanks to one of my recruitment consultants, I was referred to Barbara John, an international voice and speech coach, for assistance.
Barbara has researched and designed a pronunciation program for speakers of other languages. After my first training session with Barbara, I realised that my strong Spanish accent was getting in the way of my communication. People simply could not understand me. Not only was my speech rapid, but also some of the sounds of my mother tongue were intruding on my spoken English. As you can imagine, I had to develop completely new speech sounds, (there are 44 of them in the English Language) and Barbara’s expertise was invaluable. She taught me to ‘UNLEARN’ how I had been speaking English for 20 years, and to adopt new speaking habits with the correct, more acceptable and easily understood sounds detailed in her fantastic program ‘Perfect Pronunciation’.
It has taken only 8 sessions with Barbara to notice a huge difference in the clarity of my speech. Australians can now understand me! This has helped my self-confidence when attending job interviews, asking questions at parent information evenings at my children’s primary school, and making telephone calls to prospective employers. I can even discuss footy!
I strongly recommend coaching with Barbara especially for those whose mother tongue is not English. It has made a huge impact on my professional and personal life.
Thank you Barbara.

In spite of being technically competent, do you think you communicate like a professional?
How often are you asked to repeat what you’ve just said?
Ever wondered why you were unsuccessful in a job interview or business presentation?
Are you able to explain your ideas clearly and confidently?
Believe me, it’s not YOU but your COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
I am working as an IT recruitment consultant. In the course of my work, I regularly meet clients who are reluctant to recruit Indian or Chinese IT professional because of their poor communication skills.
Being a professional myself, I have also faced the same problems and frustrations that most Indian professionals encounter and I thought I would share with you how I overcame them.
I have been in Technology and Sales for the last 5 years. I have worked in India and Singapore, and travelled to many other countries both on business and for leisure. Recently I migrated to Australia, and am based in Melbourne. Getting a job was not as easy as I imagined – I found myself having to repeat things several times before I was understood. Naturally, I blamed others for not understanding me, since I believe I speak fluent English.
After struggling for months, I got a job with a successful Australian company. Here again I seemed to encounter similar problems of not being understood. Fortunately, my boss took the initiative and organised for me to have coaching. He introduced me to Barbara John,B.A., B.Litt.(Hons), FTC(London). Barbara is a professional voice and speech coach with over 20 years experience in effective communication. She has helped hundreds of Indians both in India and overseas to speak an internationally recognised English.
After the first session with Barbara, I found an immediate improvement in my pronunciation, and after my last session yesterday, I feel so much more confident. My colleagues, clients and friends have all noticed a change in my accent. I feel really thrilled that I don’t have to repeat myself all day.
If you are facing the same problems, feel you need to improve your English diction and accent, develop accurate syllable stress and intonation, I highly recommend ‘Perfect Pronunciation’. It is the best course that I have attended.
One of the important aspects of ‘Perfect Pronunciation’ is the accurate syllable stress to which the learner is introduced. I never realized that there is no TABLE in ‘COMFORTABLE’, or ‘VEGETABLE’, and that the stress falls on the first syllable in ‘PROFILE’, ‘INDUSTRY’ and ‘MOBILE’.
So my advice to anyone who is keen to improve their communication skills, is to follow this excellent learning system. Details are available on www.perfectpronunciation.com

Born in Peru, where my native language is Spanish, I have had little opportunity to hear English spoken. I was, therefore, really pessimistic about ever being able to speak English well. But I’ve been learning English for four months now and with the back up of PERFECT PRONUNCIATION, I can already hear the difference in my own pronunciation. The clarity of Barbara’s voice and her presentation of the forty four sounds, which exist in English, has been so helpful. It’s interesting, enjoyable and most important, it really does work.

'What an innovative program for Indian speakers of English! Although my
staff speak fluent English, they've often experienced difficulties when
making themselves understood to our overseas clients, who are native
speakers of the language. Now that Perfect Pronunciation has identified
clearly and precisely ALL the sounds of the English Language, they have been
able to correct their pronunciation and improve their spoken communication.'

Indians speak English fluenty, but we have never been taught the building
blocks of accurate pronunciation and word stress. Perfect Pronunciaton has
been invaluable in helping our students master the sounds of English,
lifting their confidence to express themselves. The program is clear, easy
to use, and such fun. The tongue twisters are particularly popular as they
are a good memory-aid to the correct sounds.'
